Hybrid publishing is a relatively new phenomenon, brought about by the possibilility of self-publishing. It can mean various things:
- As is my own case with my non-fiction books, I sold the print rights to a traditional publisher but kept the electronic rights for myself.
- Or, you might start off self-publishing, and catch the interest of a traditional publisher who is impressed with your sales figures, and sell the rights to them next.
- Or, you might sell the rights in certain territories to a traditional publisher, and self-publish in other territories.
